EXPLOITED BY GRAMAPHONE. (Received June 28 at 5.5 join.) (Reuter). LONDON, June 27. Th»* House <>f ('ominous, by 223 votes to 30, carried the third reading of the Private Members’ Bill, entitled The Dramatic and Musical Performers’ Protection Bill. The object is to prevent the production of unauthorised gramaphone records of performances to be broadcasted by artists. Sir M. Conway explained that at present it was not advisable for firstclass artists to perform for broadcast because the performance could be taken down by a gramaphone receiver, and a gramaphone negative made, from which records could be produced for sale, which would result in the breaking of contracts between the trtists and the gramaphone companies. The Bill would help to improve the broadcast of programmes. The Government supported the Bill.
