WESTPORT NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent). The Borough scarifier rooted up a. rata, stump in Palmerston Street on Tuesday, in front of the Stockton Coal Company’s Office. It is about 20ft. in length and 3ft. in diameter. The members of (he Phoenix Masonic Lodge held a social evening in St. John's School room on Tuesday evening. and a pleasant time was spent in dancing. Christianity in this part of the country seems to he passing through a revolution. There are two churches at present turned into dance houses. One is the Pi'sbytcrian Church, which was bought by the Friendly Societies and converted into a. social hall. The other is the Methodist Church in Lyndhurst Street bought by the English Church, and is used for social purposes. .
