ABOLISH GOVERNORS A Canadian Idea (Sun Cable.) (Received June 16 at 10.35 p.m. ) OTTAWA, June 15. Th© abolition of the post of Governor General of Canada was recommended by Mr J. 8. Woodsworth, a Labour Member in the House of Commons, when a vote for expenses of maintain ing the Governor General’s residence was before the House. Mr Woodsworth was supported by another Labour Member, Mr Irvine, of Calgary, both disclaiming any intention ' of disparaging the present or any in cumbent of the post. Th e recommendation of Mr Woods worth declared that, in the interests of economy, he thought the Chief Justice of Canada should discharge the duties, and sav e the expense, which he estimated at half a million dollars yearly. The Minister of Railways, Mr Graham who was leading the House, said that Lord Byng, who is retiring, had proved himself a man of the peo pie—n real man— and a democrat. So long as the Imperial Government sento Canada such men as Lord Byng, he felt Canada would he benefittcd by the present system of appointing governors. The discussion was then dropped.
