Mr Woodsworth was supported by another Labour Member, Mr Irvine, of Calgary, both disclaiming any intention ' of disparaging the present or any in cumbent of the post. Th e recommendation of Mr Woods worth declared that, in the interests of economy, he thought the Chief Justice of Canada should discharge the duties, and sav e the expense, which he estimated at half a million dollars yearly. The Minister of Railways, Mr Graham who was leading the House, said that Lord Byng, who is retiring, had proved himself a man of the peo pie—n real man— and a democrat.
