- to be rescued in boats. All the flats were submerged. Some houses were washed awaj , ; ::d others submerged to the eaves. A brief report from Wagga states that the river is in high flood. Many residents have removed to the high lands. The weather report to-day indicates that there will be further stormy weather. Heavy rain is approaching from the south. The Weather Bureau warned settlers to expect heavy floods in the southern rivers. Delayed wires from scattered sources indicate that the floods wore widespread through the southern districts, and damage serious. Goulburn reports heavy (landing. All reports, *iowcve£’, up to a late hour, give little detail. A heavy storm is raging on the south coast below Morava, and travelling north. The weather in Sydnev is clear and fine. Terrific floods are almost inevitable in the Murrumbridgee River. Grnvn fears are felt for the safety of lives and stock. Torrents of rain In the ranges about Kiandra and I'ooina caused raging rivers to rush down every gully that feeds the hundreds of square miles of the Alurrumbidgee wa-
tershed. At Gundag i the river is rising a foot each hour. At Cooma. it is impossible to get within a mile of ihe banks. Water, several feet deep. is tearing over the country. The main road between Sydney and Arelbourno is under six feet of wat<-r. Houses along the river are submerged. Stacks of iu. cerne and hay have been washed awr-v. All other reports are equally alarm. i n ffIn 1922 the river flooded a great pari of Wagga. The indications are that a higher level will be reached this time. At Trimut, the river was run ning a banker. Reports from Burrinjuck Dam state that the water is. over the main wall of the dam. All the great supply pipes and much other work for the hydroelectric scheme at the. dam were washed away. The Post Office staff was compelled to abandon the building. Tn the Queanbeyan district, flood waters of the Afolonglo River arc washing high over the bridges, preventing access from Queanbeyan to Canberra. Trains have been cancelled. Telegraphic and telephone communications with Canberra are interrupted. The lines, which normally are thirty feet above the river, were washed away. A man at Canberra was drowned through his car falling' into deep water. Between Bungendore and Goulburn. the country is flooded for miles. Official reports say that the win-1 reached a velocity of 64 to 75 miles an hour. The rainfall during twenty-four hours was 10.84. Shoalhaven River D rising, and the wharf and boatshed are already submerged.
