L.R.C. PLEDGE
CHRISTCHURCH MEETING. About fifty delegates attended the meeting of the Labour Representation Committee on Saturday night—the first held since tho conference of the Labour Party decided that adherents must sign a pledge “to faithfully uphold and wholeheartedly work” for the Party’s “objective, constitution, platform, and decisions, and no other, and to work and vote for the selected candidates of the party.” At the close of the meeting the chair man, Mr R. Maefarlane, told a reporter that the first business was that each delegate was asked to subscribe to and sign the Party pledge in eomformity with the decision of the conference.
Some discussion ensued and all but a small minority-—about half-a-dozen—-signed the pledge. All those who <le dined to sign were not Communists, but none of the Communists signed it. Some of the delegates of two unions declined to sign. Those who declined would, no doubt, report to their organisations their reasons for their action.
