INFANTILE PAPALYSIS

EPIDEMIC AT MELBOURNE. MELBOURNE, May 12. (Received May 12 at 9.10 p.m.) Thc City Council discussed the prevalence of infantile paralysis in and about Melbourne. Tt was urged that, in view of New Zealand’s experience they should prepare for emergency. Doctor Hughes stated the average number of cases in the Children’s Hospital previously did not ex d three. This year there had been 22, with five deaths. There were at least two other deaths outside, and one doctor was caring for eleven cases. The. Council decided to form a standby organisation in the event of it being needed. A conference for health officers is being held to discuss the position. DUNEDIN, May 12. A boy aged six years has been ad mitted to the hospital, being a positive case of infantile paralysis.
