HOSPITAL BOARD
THE APPOINTMENT OF SECRETARY... A special mooting of' the Hospital Board wa s held yesterday afternoon to consider the question of tippointing a Secretary-Steward to the Board. The Chairman stated that he had hoped the appointment of a SecretarySteward would bo able to be considered at the meeting, but the Act required that Ihe Health Department should inspect the applications before an appointment was made. Mr Brislauc: I think we are more competent to appoint a Secretary than a lot of clerks up in Wellington. The ’Chairman: That is not the question. The point is that wo are compelled by the Act to semi the applications to Wellington. Mr Ashton said that that meeting was the last that Board would hold, and ho thought it only fair that the old Board should have the appointing of the Secretary. The Chairman: This Board has power to do any business until the now mom bers are appointed. On the motion of Mr Ashton, seconded by Mr Brislano, it was decided to hold a special meeting of the Board on April 2Sth next, and to request the Department to have the applications r*' turned by that date. As previously announced in the “Argus’ a. large number of applications for the position were received from all parts of New Zealand.
