VALEDICTORY
MRS CORCORAN. Last week a number of friends m*. at the rvsi.'enee of Mrs Corcorrm, of Brick street, the gathering taking the form of a ‘‘surprise party,’’ and so many assembling that the consequent consternation of the hostess proved amusing to those present. A. very enjoyable evening was spent. Several musical items \yere given and a guessing competition and caird tournament caused much merriment. After a dainty supper had been served, ftlrs J.() : Brien in a eulogistic speech, touched on the long residence of Mrs Corcoran in Greymouth, and the high esteem in which she was always held by her friends. She hoped Mrs Co coran would be happy in her new home in the North Island; and that she would soon return to see them all agann. On behalf of Airs Corcoran’s friends, Mrs Murtagh, her neighbour for the’ longest period, then present her with a gold wristlet watch and a suitcase. Mrs O’Brien said that when, the watch was looked at. it was hoped it would remind Mr s Corcoran of her Greymouth friends, and that th e suitcase would come in handy when shedecid(‘d lo visit Greymouth aigain.
