OPENING SITTING. LONDON, April 15. The Nationalists ami Republicans were absent from the opening of the Belfast Parliament. Xfr O’Neill was re-elected Speaker. Ulster’s second Parliament wvs opened in state by the Governor. Tho King’s speech outlined the plans to niilnto Industry and relieve un-emphiyim-iH. Bills would be. introduced to improve mining facilities, and grant moderate •compassionate pensions to persons or dependents of persons who have rendered distinguished service to Science, Literature or Arts or in a public e.a pa city. WOMAN VOTES AT TWENTY BOOTHS. LONDON, April 4 There was a heavy poll at the Ulster elections. Tho counting of the proportional votes.. Twenty voters were arrested at Belfast for alleged impersonation. One woman boasted that she voted twenty times. Joseph Devlin Elected. The count, of preference votes shows that. Belfast returned two Unionists, two Independent Unionists, and one Labourite, also Mr Joseph Devlin, a Nationalist. Mr T. P. O’Connor, M.P., writes : “Although three constituencies elected Mr Devlin to the previous Parliament, ho did not attend in accordance with his agreement.” Air Devlin announces that he will take his seat in the new Parliament.
“I regard the elections as a- cheering sign of tho times in Ireland, whore it has been difficult to find anything cheering in the past few years,” said he. Even his Orange opponents express satisfaction with Mr. Devlin's decision.
