LEAGUE FOOTBALL

NOTES ON THE GAME. League football again experienced a success .week-end. Good play characterised most of the matches and some hard fought gamo 3 resulted. Manst seniors wer c extended to their utmost to defeat Koa and on the play Roa were unlucky to lose. For the Maiists, O’Uallalian was the outstanding forward, whilst Jackson was the pick of the backs. Buist in the backs and Hansen and Dando in the forwards were prominent in the R O a team, the first-named putting in some good back play. Kells (Roa) had the misfortune to break his collar-bone early in the game, and had to retire, his absence handicapping the Roa team immeasurably. Mouatt was ( sorely missed from the Marist team, and th e absence of this brilliant player partly accounted for the greens’ poor showing. Blackball had an easy win over the Grey firsts. Blackball have called up most of last years’ juniors and these young players promise to play equally as brilliant football as they did in the lower grade. Kinsella (liadf) and -McCabe shone out in the Blackball ranks, and Leach and Molloy were conspicuous on Die Greymouth side.

Brunner juniors upheld the good opinion formed about them in their first match by defeating Rovers. Marist juniors defeated Nelson Creek only after a hard struggle, in which the issue was always in doubt. Ncipa a new player for tTio Greens, played a good game and should soon attain a higher grade. Inangahua will make their debut on Sunday when they meet Blackball on the latter’s ground. This gam c should be well worth witnessing, as both teams play good football. Roa will have- to put their best team on. the field on Sunday when they meet Runanga at Dunollio. Runanga have improved considerably since they met Marists and it will be no surprise to see this team near the top when the season finishes. Tho N.S.W. Rugby League show a credit balance of £2093.
