COUNTY COUNCIL. (Our Own Correspondent.) Al the monthly meeting of the Iriangahua. County Council, there wore present: Messrs Bell (chair), Auld, Wilson, Blackaddei; Byrne, O’Rogan and Carroll. Before commencing business, the Chairman, and members extended a hearty welcome to the new member for Maruia. Springs Riding, Cr. W. Blackodder. On the motion of Crs Carroll and Auld, it was resolved that Cr Blackadder be voted Hie sum of £3 for travelling expenses, per meeting.. From J. White notifying sale of property, and asking amendment, to R. Rolls.—Request granted. From Mining Registrar reporting no residence sites wore registered during January. From Town Clerk, 'Greymouth, re the removal from Greymouth of the Traffic Manager and Railway Workshops.—Resolved to protest against removals: also against the coal importations. From Health Inspector notifying case of infectious disease.—Received. From Consolidated oGldfields of New Zealand on matter of refund of part of license fee paid on motor ear.—Referred to County collector. From. Isaac Patterson forwarding copy of application for water race, T. S. and J. H. Roberts, Murray Creek.— Referred to Engineer. From Mines Department advising reduction in rents on sundry mining priv-> i I eges.—Recei ved. From same re North Blackwater Alines Ltd.; also respecting application by Boatmans Consolidated Gold Mines Ltd (in liquidation) io treat rent as irrecoverable; also re letter as to Hu-karere-Blackwater road extension. From Commissioner of Crown Lands forwarding Schedule for expenditure of “Thirds” to 31/12/24; £2O 5/-.— Approved. From Secretary Fire Brigade advising that Mr C. Coxall has been elected Captain of the Brigade and asking for a grant of £24 towards the Brigade’s expenses to Christchurch. —Resolved on motion of Crs Carroll and Auld to vote £l2, regretting the full amount asked could not he given. There was a division on the motion, viz.. For. Crs Auld (ERegan. Blncknd<Ter, Byrne and Carroll: Against: Crs Watson and Bell. Tn reply to a request, it was decided on the motion of Messrs Crs O’Regan and Byrne to grant £5 to the, A. and P. Association when funds are available. The Minister of Public Works, and Mr Hudson, M.P., made application for a grant for Maruia Road, and the latter re improvements to the hot springs, and the Minister’s letter to Mr Hudson was read re road from Springs Junction to Maruia Springs. The Resident Engineer advised that arrangements are being made to have the work put in hand at once. The Resident Engineer. Public Works Department', wrote stating Mai Mai Road is receiving attention; also asking that County Engineer prepare estimate of cost for tarring and sanding Little Grey Bridge lit Mawhoralti. and also Snowy Creek Bridge.— Received and resolved Unit tin' Engineer supply the estimate asked. From Chairman, No 12 Council Main Highways, stating repairs will he mode to Reefton Traffic Bridge as far as funds will allow; also from Main Highwavs Board Chairman re assistance towards the cost of maintenance of main highways; also re experimcnl.nl roads. —Resolved on the motion of Crs O’Revan and Watson to reply that the Council is considering the matter of experimental roads. Mr Senwrigbt seconded. Carried. From Matron Greaves, enclosing list- of requirements, and accounts for Waiuta. It was resolved the mat tribe left in the bands of the Town Committee. From J. Rodden enclosing a cheque for £37 10s and asking for a residence for the porter at Waiutai to be completed. Mr Mclnroe moved that the chairman and the secretary attend to same. Mr Paine seconded. Carried. Mr Auld moved that the agreement with- Dr. Conlon and Iho Board be signed by two members of the Board. Mr Seawright seconded.—Carried. Applications for sister were received as follows: A. M.
