ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE. SYDNEY. February 21. Patrick Marshall. contractor. of Hcyficld, was committed for trial on a charge of attempting to ran>< poison to be administered to his wife. Agnes, with intent to murder her. The police alleged that Marshall in sured the wife’*. life for £2OOO on January 25th, and two days later took her to a doctor who proscribed for her. She took the medicine a! first, without any ill-effect. but on February 2nd she became violently ill. and was sent to the hospital, whore she recovered. but alter taking another dose if the medicine on February Gt h, while in hospital, she was again violently ill from strychnine poisoning. An analysis of the medicine showed that strychnine had been added. When Marshall’s home was searched ti bottle contain ing strychnine was found in a draw WOMAN THIEF GAOLED. WANG AN IM. Feb 2." At the Magist rat <•’s Court, for a gia.ring ease of theft of .£l9/10/- at the course on the first day of the Wanganui races, a woman named Lena < 'lapperton. was sentenced to one years hard labour to be followed by Iwo years reformative treatment.
