CHARGES Oi‘ THEFT. SCHOOL COMMITTEE CASE. CHRISTCHURCH. January 14. Ernest Hawkings, formerly chairman of the Spreydon School Committee, wa.s charged at the Police Court today with having stolen £2l 19/8. the property of the Committee. The money represented the amount raised at a concert organised to assist the fund for the improvement of the school grounds. Walter Smith, secretary to the School Committee, said that accused gave him a cheque for the amount, •nt the cheque was not -met by the bank.
