Appeals against the dismissals have been lodged. STORM WRECKS .N.S.W. TOWN. SYDNEY, January 13. A \ iolent storm caused extensive damage to the town of Balranald. It is reported that ■eighty per cent, of the buildings were damaged, and many were unroofed, including the hospital, fire station, and convent. The belfry of the Catholic Church was blown down and the telegraphic ami water ser vices disorganised. A child, Monica Smith, was killed by a piece of flying roofing. A prominent grazier, Edward Borman, was crushed to death by a falling tree. Lister, engineer at the waterworks, ‘Aas injured when the engine house collapsed. 'The staff and patients in the hospital had some narrow escapes from tumbling debris.
