FORESTRY
AT J’HK SCHOOLS. AUCKLAND. October 5. Many schools in the .Auckland district are taking up the proposal of the Forestry Department to establish nurseries for the raising of seedlings of shelter and timber trees. It is estimated that- -IS schools interested in this project will raise approximately 1(10,000 seedlings for distribution to llieir pupils. la order that there may be some uniformity in instruction to children courses lor instructors a.i’e being held at the State Forestry plantations at Rotoirua. TTie four instructors in agriculture to the Auckland Education Board (Messrs H. \V. Hesse, W. Hudson, 1.. W. McCaskill, and J. Dennehy) spent three days last week at the plantations attending a course or instruction. They were much impressmi with tin* magnitude of the operations at th(* Whaikai’ewarewa nurseries, where about 10 million young trees are being prepared for planting next season. The. course* dealt particularly with tbp methods; to be adopted in the schools.
