MELBOURNE, Dee 5 A writ returnable at the High Court was served on officials of the Watersid its' Federation and officers of other maritime unions, who are alleged to be engaged in the conduct of an overtime strike. Application is being made iu tlw writs, on behalf of the oversea shipping companies for an injunction against the unions to restrain fliein from conducting the strike, which' it is claimed is a breach of the award. CONFERENCE EXPECTED. MELBOURNE, December 5. It is expected that a conference between the parties to the shipping dis pute will result from the Arbitration Court’s intervention. The prospects of a settlement by that means are regarded as favourable. The matter will be before the Arbitration Court, to-day. THE SEAMEN’S DISPUTE PERTH. December 4. The Council of the Australian Labour Party decided to take the disputes of the Seamen’s Union out of the hands of the Secretary of th - Union and to ask the States Disputes Committee to intercede with view to an early amii-able settli-nu-ir. as early as possible. OWNERS' PROPOSAL. TO PRESERVE SYDNEY BUREAU. MELBOURNE, December 5. In the Arbitration Court, the shipowners proposed as the basis of a set* tlement of the waterside dispute that the Sydney Waterside Federation members agree to register at the Shipping Labour Bureau for employment as casual wharf labourers. COMMONWEALTH LINER RESUMING. SYDNEY, December 5. The liner Moreton Bay has commenced signing on n new crew. She will sail on Saturday. TRUCE AT FREMANTLE. PERTH, December 5. A twelve, hours’ armistice has been declared in connection with the Fre mantle waterfront dispute and has en ablcd several vessels to berth and com mcnce unloading.
