Knight, owner of Royal Despatch announces that in conseqiieni'O of tb.e decision l.v the Appeal Judges of the Racing Conference in the Jones McCarti’n case, he will not race any of his horses during th? balance of the present season. His confidence in the trainer and jockev is unshaken and they will resume their old positions with him when the term of disqualification is over. The Westland Racing Club’s nominations. published in this issue, show that although numerically the fields are not very large. a very good class of horses may be expected :d the coming meetings oil the (’oast, probably an improvement on an? thing seen over here previously. At a meeting of the Grey District Racing Committee yesterday, presided oxer by Mr T. E. Coates, the appllca tion of F. Goodman, for an appren lice’s license was recommended. J. B. Pearson (‘(intern plates racing sum l of his team at the Dunedin summer meeting, after which he may go to Invercargill. E. Seoul la r has Ferino and Picaninny doing good work. They are both, engaged at Methven to-day, after which they will Ijp got ready for the West (’oast holiday fixtures. Top Score has gone through a lor of good work lately, and she will l»e well hacked in the Alothven Cup Today. The seven furlong journey should just, suit her.
J. Lindsay is now training Purple Tris, by Solferino—Flower of the West and it is probable that h“ will take her to the Most Coast for the holiday meetings. The Otago crack Loughroa is, it is reported, to join S. Waddell’s team until the close of Ihe Auckland Racing (’bib’s meeting. J. Gray, the son of IT. Gray, rode Tzidy Lois into second place, in the Cheltenham Handicap on the opening day at Takapuna. Sprinkler who finished up last season with two wins, has been running out for some time past, and lie will not Tie taken in hand again until the autumn, whim the prospect of softer tracks will be in his favour. The brother to Pilliewinkie might have been a really good horse if he had been sound. Tanadees ran a had race in the Feilding Cup, but improved greatly an Monday. The same remark applies to L ’Amour. First Salute was feeling the effects of the hard ground when ho camo out for the St. Andrew’s Handicap an Monday, but he ran a good race. He should race prominently at Christmas if the tracks are not too hard. With Gold Light and Loughrea engaged, there was no doubt what names would be at the top of the Auckland Cup Handicap. Gold Light, by her performances this spring, has fairlv earned her 9.7, ■which is 71b over her weight-for-age impost. Loughrea has boon assessed at Hb short of woight-
for-age, the handicapper’s compliriKmi being for the marc. Loughrea will he a much fitter gelding at Christmas time and he should certainly finish in front of Gold Light. Musketoon Ims his New Zealand Cup impost, ami produced again til ami well, with everything in order lie will l>e very hard to beat. It is doubtful if I‘illiew iukie. S. will be fit to see out two miles, ami judging by Dim’s appearance -it Fcilding it does not seen; likely that he will be at his l»est by Boxing Day. Muraahi, with 8.1, is a possibility, and Tarleton, 7.1, has been given a great chance providing a capable light - weight can be found. Polonett. G.IO. is an improving horse but the thirtyfive on i the G. 7 mark comprise, all grades of gallopers. Without a pretence of analysing the handicap) by pounds and ounces, at first glance, Musketoon, Tarleton and Muraahi ap peal most. Fillette is improving with racing and the second day at Feilding saw her run a good race for nearly a mil- 1 in the event won by Gaze. 'Phis was good hack form and F. J. (’aimonf will not have to wait long bufore hi weighs in for a stake. Stream tu'came conspicuous on thhome turn in the concluding event <•! the Feilding meeting, and she eveu tually finished se\«'idh. In company a little below’ what she ..ie. tiug she will win.
