Mr J. W. Poynton unwittingly caused roars of laughter to disturb the dignity of Ihe Police Court, during the i eat\ ing of a. defence case recently (says the Auckland. iStpr). A young- solicitor, who was appearing for a diminutive defaulter —a stable boy—commenced his address to the bench when Mr Poynton suddenly looked up and inquired “Aie you the boy’s father.”
