DEATH OF MINER

INQUEST ADJOURNED. J An inquest following on the dentil lof Mr James Iligson, the victim of a mine accident was held in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Mr W. Mcidruni, >S.M., being the presiding coroner. iSenior-Sergcant P. J. M.cCarthy conducted the proceedings. Dr J. F. C. Moore stated that the deceased was admitted to the Grey River Hospital on July 23 at C» p.m. He examined deceased, who was unconscious, and suffering from a scalp wound on the left side of the head; abrasions on the left side of the body, and a deep contusion to the right eyebrow. An operation was performed on July 25, with a view of relieving the brain injury; but the relief was oniy temporary. His condition gradually grew weaker, and he died on July 27 at 11.15 p.m. lie <lid not regain consciousness at any time sufficiently to answer questions. The cause of death was severe concussion to the brain, causing cerebral hemorrhage, following severe shock. The injury 1o the scalp was on the left side, and the injury to the brain was on the right side. A post mortem examination was made on Monday afternoon to determine the exact location pf the injury. and it was found to be at the base of th? brain on the right side. Death was quite consistent with the history of G*. accident. John Yates, trucker, residing at. Cobden, and a step son of the deceased, said Iligson was a married man li\ing with his family at Runanga. He was a. native of Lancashire, and 57 years of age. Up till the time of the accident, deceased was in his normal health. Senior-sergeant I’. J. McCarthy said that was all the evidence he proposed to call at present. Mr C. J. Strongman. Inspector of Aline, and Air I. A. James, Superintendent ot State Alines, would not arrive here until Saturday evening, and as it. would be neccssary to hear their evidence, lie. asked that the inquest be adjourned. An adjournment was granted until next Tuesday.
