DESTRUCTIVE EIRE AT ROTORUA.
ROTORUA, July 23. About 3 o’clock this morning, a fire occurred in a block in Tutanekai Street, owned by Mr T. Woolliams. The fire gutted the shops of W. Hardie, draper; Mrs Galbraith, confectioner; and also Hardie’s bulk store. It damaged the shops of R. G. Marsh, photographer; and E. T. Harris, bookseller. The fire had a strong hold when discovered. It is impossible to tell whore and how the fire originated. Hardie’s and Galbraith’s stocks were destroyed, and Marsh’s ami Harris’s were greatly damaged. Woolliams was insured in the United Office for £1400; Harris in the United for £1500; Hardie, in the Victoria, for £1200; Marsh in the Northern for £350. Mrs Galbraith was not insured. The brigade did exceedingly well lo save the block, as a strong wind was blowing.
