MILLERTON NOTES.
(Our Own Correspondent.) A hard-up socinl ami dance will be held in the County Hall on Friday, July 27. The proceeds are in aid of tho St. Paul’s Anglican Church repair fund. The Male Voice Choir will render several selections during tho evening. Prizes are to be given to the lady and gent who we. r the most appropriate costume. A good qpmmitt.ee is elected, and Mrs 11. Ninnes is acting as hon. secretary, so patrons can rest assured the entertainment will be firstclass. The Soccer matches played recently resulted in tho Albion Club being defeated by the Thistles and Wanderers respectively. The Wanderers defeated the Athletic (Granity) last Saturday, by three goals to one. A very interesting Soccer game took place recently between the Scots and Englishmen. It was an international match of no mean order! The “burgoo” proved to have the best staying qualities, for the “ham and eggs” petered out towards the end of the second. spell, with the result that the “clan” succeeded in getting two goals to the good when Referee Jim Ormond called time. A collection was taken up on behalf of the Ladies’ Hockey Club. On behalf of that club, I thank both the teams and supporters.
The opening of the new shop, owned by Mr Jack Jeffries, butcher, took place on Friday. The delicacies displayed, reflected credit on tho staff, and it is to be hoped further displays of lhe kind will be given.
