BLOCKING A DEMONSTRATION. NEW YORK, April 28. A Pittsburg message states that the proposed May Day demonstration, was thwarted by the arrest of twenty-three alleged Communists, and the seizure of tons of Radical literature, urging violence. Bomb-making material was also found in the places raided. MAY DAY. , ’ ; MELBOURNE, 18The executive of the Northern branch of the Miners’ Federation is endeavouring to have May 1 declared a public holiday. The idea is to allow all the miners in the northern field to come together for a day's enjoyment.
