McCullough shows who RULiiiS. CHRISTCHURCH, October 17. Air J. McCullough (formerly of the Arbitration Court), who is the Labour Party’s candidate for Riccarton, opened his campaign to-night, addressing a large meeting at Riccarton town hall. He got a very attentive hearing. He announced himself as strongly opposed to the present Government. He cited, as the failures, of this Government, their railway administration, their immigration policy, and their policy ot raising tax free loans during the war period, instead of levying additional taxation. Mr McCullough made a general statement that the financial institutions of this country are practically dictating the policy of the Government. A vote of thanks was passed by the meeting to Air AlcCullough. A FEMALE TORY. AUCKLAND, October 17. The political campaign in Auckland was opened by Aliss E. Alelville (Independent Reform candidate for Roskili) to-night. She said that she would vote for the present Government on a “no confidence” motion. She asserted the general call for economy should not be allowed to interfere with education. The Government should encourage the building of houses, by advancing money to homescekers. She urged the need for social reforms, particularly that the child welfare department should control the whole life of the child. A vote of thanks and confidence was passed.
