WEST COAST RUGBY UNION The Executive meeting last night was attendee! by Capt. Cox (chair), Messrs Heaphy, Fairbairn, Armstrong, Jard-en, Giescking, Guy, Rothwell, Heffernan, Wilson, Dunford, and Jones (secretary). It was resolved to award Marist juniors a match ball for winning the knock-out competition. A letter was read from the Now Zealand Rugby Union re an application forwarded by West Coast Rugby Union from M. Dando for reinstatement as a Rugby player, refusing the request, as June 30th had been fixed as the tinal date for reinstatements, and the Westland Sub-Union is to be advised accordingly. Re Kokatahi Club’s appeal against United Club’s playing two ex-Reefton men, it was resolved that owing to the complicated evidence, this Union was obliged to dismiss the appeal on the following grounds:—That in the ease of the protest by the Kokatahi Club regarding the United Club in Hokitika playing two players who were unfinancial this Union finds (1) that the rule referring to unfinancial members was never intended to penalise clubs, but to protect the Clubs against members who had not paid their subscriptions. (2) That in the case in question there is a conflict of evidence regarding the players protested against which makes it impossible to clearly define the position of these players as regards their financial status with the Reef ton club to which they formerly belonged; (3) that for the reasons given above the Union cannot see its way clear to uphold the appeal of the Kokatahi Club. It was reported that the local gate receipts for the year had been £470 Is Gd; receipts from all sources, £834, 13s 9d; cash in hand at start of season, £55 15s lOd; total £B9O 9s Bd. Expenditure £557 17s 10d; credit balance in hand £332 Ils 9d (including £2OO set aside for Soddon Shield competition).
