CHINESE SPORTS.
REPUBLIC’S TENTH ANNIVERSARY. SOME EXCITING FINISHES. WELLINGTON, October 13. The tenth day of the tenth month 1 is the anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Republic, but in Wellington the celebration might have been iitly described as the triple tenth, for it was also the tenth anniversary oi the event. .It took the form of athletic sports, which were held, by permission of the Wellington Rugby Union, at Athletic Park. No charge was made for admission, and in addition to the Chinese population or tne city, the majority of whom wore present, there was a fair attendance of the public. At, intervals refreshments were also handed round to the company. THE VISITORS. Republican flags were flying gaily all round the grounds. Amongst 1 hose present w-ci'e:--- Mr Li Kwang Heng. Chinese Consul; .Mr Chu Ting, chairman of the Chinese Association; Mr. Chung Tak, president, of the. Masonic Society; and Mr Mong Tong, president of the Nationalist Party. The proceedings commenced with the singing of the Chinese national s ng. The athletic events resulted: — Boys’ Race. —Ning Yue 1. Wong | Kong 2. Three-legged Race.—Wong U<-mk Nam and Low Fow 1, Kwong Wall and Sing Keo 2. 100 Yards.—Ngan Wah 1, Yeung Kuni 2. Sack Race. — Lan Kum Chen I. Ning Yue 2. Old Aten’s Walking Race.—Ah Lung 1, ma Thew 2. Girls’ Race.—Lily Wong Tong JIda Wong Tong 2. Bicycle Race (two laps).—George Chang 1, Tar Choy 2. There were four competitors in this event, the two winner! going neck and neck at the finish, Chang gaining the verdict by inches after an exciting finish.
