J. H. THOMAS.
WHERE HE DESIRED TO BE! At a dinner of the English-Speaking Union, with Lady Astor and all the “Nobs,” Air J. IL Thomas, P.C., ALP., secretary of the Railway Union, is reported as follows: — “Mr J. 11. Thomas, P.C., ALP., proposing the health of the chairman, said that shortly there was to be an end of the present Government, and he intended asking Lady Lee of Fareham to be good enough to give Airs Thomas a few tips on running the Chequers—(laugher)—but Airs Lloyd George had passed him a note saying that she and her husband had not cleared out yet. (Loud laughter.) This may be jesting, but many a true word is spoken in jest! Rejoice, O miners! for you have raised up a Master for yourselves—even from the ranks. Mrs J. 11. T., who might, like your wives, be living in a two-room shanty and doing her own washing, is thinking about asking Lady Lee how to run the Chequers after the manner born.
