NON-CO-OPERATION IN MADRAS. AKAJjIS arrested in hundreds [A. and N.Z. Cable Aisociation.l DELHI, October 12. Non-co-operators at Madras adopted a novel method of picketing foreign cloth shops. They lay on the road and challenged the would-be purchasers ui the cloth to walk over them. Following excesses resuiting from the action of the authorities to meet the situation, nc.n-co-operators ’ leaders ordered the cessation of picketing. Negotiations between the Commissioner and the Akali leaders give promise of a settlement of the trouble. Altogether 1700 Akalis have been arrested since the trouble started.
