CRICKET.
..ENGLISH COUNTY CHAMPION- . SHIP. [A. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Rec. August G, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, August 5. The newspapers are urging the revision of a system of deciding the cricket championship. The “Evening Standard” says:—The system is too full of anomalies to give satisfaction to anyone. The present scheme is ensuing so much dissatisfaction that something must be done in the direction of improvements. Public opinion is growing iu favour
of a division of the first-class counties into two sections. In the county cricket, Notts (277 and 2653 beat Lancashire (231 and 184. Middlesex in the second innings made 182 for 4 wickets. The gamo was abandoned owing to rain. Playing Hants, Surrey made 323 and 141 for 8 wickets (declared). Hants made 291 and 130 for 5 wickets. Sandham. for Surrey made 123 and 7 (not I out). The game was drawn. Somerset (367) drew with Worcester, who made 87 and 145 for 9 wickets, white took 8 wickets for 55.
