GREY NATIVE RESERVE.
QUESTION OF SALE. JIAOItIS OPPOSE GKEY BILL. CIIBISTCIIURCTI, August 4. Judge Rawson attended the Maori Hui at Tualiiwi this afternoon, and conferred with the native owners of the Greymouth reserve of 500 acres. Judge Rawson was instructed by the owners to oppose the legislation proposed by the Greymouth Chamber of Commerce for the acquisition of the reserve by the Greymouth Borough CounJudge w.-.s authoriscdoPCpcsh .... Judge Rawson was authorised to submit during the present session the draft of the bill giving the Native Trustee the power to sell the reserve as and when he thought best, the Trustee to retain the purchase money, except iu special cases; and the reserve not to be sold in one piece, but in sections, as applied for. The Native Minister’s reply to the Maori request for the payment of the outstanding claims of £534,000 was also discussed, and was deemed to be satisfactory.
