LAKE COLERIDGE.
ELECTRICITY FOR SOUTH CANTERBURY. WELLINGTON. July 24. In answer to a question raised by Mr Craigi-c in the House -with respect to the progress of Lake Coleridge extension, the Minister of Public Works said: No. 6 turbine is delivered with the exception of the case to replace Ih*e damaged one, and this has bem shipped. The generator is completed and delivery is expected during August. The pipe-line construction is completed. The new’ power-house transformers are completed, hut a considerable amount of work on live connexions remains to be done in order to connect them up. They will he installed by the end of the year, and the sixth unit will be in service by them. With regard to the erection of the line to Timaru, the poles and insulators are completed. Tenders for the erection of the wire close at the end of August, and the wirerunning will take four months, and will be completed by the end of the year Tenders have been received for the special steel poles for the Rangitata crossing. They are due in four months, and can be erected it, a few weeks after arrival. Tenders for the Timaru sub-station building will be called in the course of a few days. The necessary switch-gear for Timaru is in stock. As far as present indications go, the supply will be available in Timaru early in 1983.
