HIGH WOOL DUTY.

FIGHT IN U.S.A. WASHINGTON. July 24. The U.S. Senate fight over the wool shedulc in the tariff was renewed w’i -.i Senator L. Root declared that the proposed duties on coarse wools would be equal in some cases to as high as 137 per cent advalorem. He offered an amendment to fix the maximum advalorem rate at 60 per cert, adding that the proposed 33 cents per pound rate on wool would mean 100 per cent a '’valorem rate. Senators Gooding,Bursum. anti Stanfield, : 11 from the wool growing States insisted on the 33 cent duty. Senator StanficM claims to be the largest individual wool grower in the world. Many of the Republicans are frankly worried over the wool tariff situation.
