IRISH STRUGGLE.
BATTLE IMMINENT AT MALLOW. REPUBLICANS’ GUERILLA TACTICS. LONDON, July 23. The rebels are now concentrating in the vicinity of Mallowtown, on the Dub-lin-Cork railway. It is expected that the final struggles will be on the outskirts of Cork. The rebels burned down Roseleaven House, belonging to the lion. Edward O'Brien, brother of Lord Inchquin. Nothing was saved. Free Staters are advancing on Cork, which is being prepared for an attack similar to Limerick. They have a moat difficult task, as the rebels are fighting in civilian garb, and can easily assume the role of innocent non-combatants. They are constantly reorganising lightning attacks and then dispersing. They are helped by the hilly country. A later message says that pie opposing forces are now in touch at Mallow Junction. ARCHBISHOP’S STIRRING APPEAL LONDON, July 24. The Archbishop of Tuam, in a sermon, appealed to the youth of Ireland to ground arms and insist on a constitutional way of ending the conflict. He said that already enough Irish blood had been shed and there had been enough destruction. Women and children were living in terror. Work was abandoned and grim spectres of famine and disease were standing at our doors. Moral law was violated, consciences tortured, and hearts torn, although by the use of common sense and moderation thcountry could now be smiling as never before, in its freedom. In the name of God. and in the name of Ireland. 'I appeal to the young men to save the old land from destruction. Let them insist on a truce of God, with a view to restoration of order in the country. CARDINAL LOGUE SEARCHED. LONDON, July 23. Cardinal Logue, wh-en attending the funeral of the Rev. Dr. Loughnan, at Jonesborough (County Louth) was ordered to dismount from the car, and was searched by armed specials.
