CHANNEL COLLISION.
REMUEBA RUNS INTO MARENGO. FORMER REACHES PORTSMOUTH. [A. and N.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON, July 21. The Remuera collided in a fog with the Ellennan liner Marengo. The Remuera was damaged in three holds, but reached Portsmouth under her own steam. The passengers were landed. NO TRACE OF MARENGO. LONDON, July 21. The Remuera collided twelve miles south of Bolt Tail. The steamer Goodwin and Minnedosa proceeded to her assistance. The lifeboats have returned to Plymouth; they found no trace of the other vessel. The Remuera is the largest vessel of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s fleet, and has a tonnage of 11,276. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. (Received July 23, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 21. The Remuera is holed on the starboard side, below tho water line, and has suffered other extensive damage. One hold is full of water. Another has eight feet of water in it, but the pumps are controlling the inflow. The Remuera is going to Falmouth for repairs. Her first-class passengers are transferring to the Ormuz, and the second-class ones are sailing in the Narva in August. An officer of rhe Remuera states there was no panic at the time of th-e collision. THE OTHER SHIP. LONDON, July 21. The Marengo, which collided with the Remuera, is proceeding to Hull under reduced steam.
