Mr J. Vigor-Brown, ALP., is again seriously ill. A former Coast miner, Mr G. S. Mathieson, died at Dunedin a few days ago, aged 83. A famous French tenor, Leon Boyle, the finest “Don Jose” who ever played in “Carmen” is dead. Bis Lordship Bishop Brodie, who has been on a visit to Europe, is due to reach Auckland on October 14. Rev. Canon Coursey, of Westport, arrived here from Christcnurch last night. Mrs Stace, wife of Rev Stace, of Waipukurau, and formerly of Brunner, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs Franklyii, of Greymouth. Mr A. V. Billett was last evening appointed to represent the Greymouth Borough Council on the Board of Managers of the Greymouth Technical School. The Rolls Royce Company intends to close down its famous aero engine works at Derby unless the British Government gives it orders to justify a continuation. The Wellington Trades and Labour Council has made Mr J. A. McCullough a presentation, an illuminated address, with a cheque in recognition of his services to organised labour, during his 15 years on the Arbitration Court. The wedding took place at Waimangaroa on. Tuesday of Air A. J. Watson, son of Mr and Airs G. Watson, of Waimangaroa, to Elizabeth, only daughter of Air and Airs R. Bradley, of Waimangaroa. Rev. Tooley performed the Ceremony. The bride was given away by her father. Air Harold Watson acted as best man. Air and Airs Watson later left for Hokitika on their honeymoon. A London cable states that Viscount Bryce left £36,000, the bulk of which was bequeathed to Oxford University. In the Federal Parliament the Premier Air AV. Al. Hughes said: Some mention has been made of Dt Jensen, who has boon appointed geologist for the Northern Territory. Dr Afaloney: “He is a Doctor of Science.” Air Hughes: “I believe that he is; and he is a geologist who, Professor David says, has a European reputation. There is in Australia no man except Professor David who is superior to Dr Jensen as a geologist.” Dr Jensen, be it noted, is one of Labor’s endorsed candidates for election to the Senate at the next Federal elections.
