FANCY DRESS BALL.

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. A delight ful plain and fancy dross masquerade ball was held in the Druids’ Hall on Tuesday night, under the auspices of the Mawhera Ladies Hockey Club. In every uay it proved a brilliant success, there being at leas’ SO couples on the fluor. The attendance in fancy dress was a record tor Greymoulh, and how the young people did enjoy themselves dancing to the breezy music as supplied by Airs W. J. Johnson’s orchestra. The 'nail decorations were most effective, there being tlags hung from corner to corner of a varied colour, wit it streamers of the Club’s colours, hung in conspicuous places, and these coupled with

. the pretty drosses, -which were very numerous made a beautiful and a gay effect. The judging of the competition for the must original fancy dress went by a vote of the gathering. Alossrs \V. Braithwait-e and T. Condon acted as scrutineers, and declared Aliss E. AlcGra’li, first, who, in a most striking way represented Miss Hopkins of the movies. The gents prize full to Air Harry Holder, who went as “Dad and Alum down on the farm.’’ The balloon dance was the next item lon the programme, and this event was a very amusing episode. The ballon lighters won’ into battle full of vim and eager, but it was found that most of the balloons were too shortly tied on. and the attack could not be carried out unless it was done at the risk ol injuring the ladies, so the attack was stopped ami balloons altered for safety. Then after a throe minute battle ol interest, there was one couple to emerge from the fray successful, in the persons of Miss S. Stanton, and Air B. Brown, who gained the prizes. During the evening a euchre tournament was held on the down floor of the Hall, and there being •eighteen tables taken up by euchre enthusiasts, a vmy enjoyable evening was spent by the 72 players. The successful ones were: — Lady’s first prize, Miss Faulkner; second, Alisa Jackson; gent’s first prize, Air Ilanne bol; second, Alastor de Freatus. During an interval a dainty supper was served by the members of the Mawhera Hockey Club, ami after full justice had been done to the good things provided, the large crowd adjourned to the ball room, and dancing was kept going to the wee hours, everyone on going away, voting the evening a most enjoyable one. A special word of commendation is deserved by the committee of the Club for their very excellent arrangements, which made the function such a great success.
