PRISONER ESCAPES.

AFTER HANDCUFFS REMOVED. MELBOURNE, July 17. William Higgins, a prisoner at Pentridge, whilst, working in the prison shop, injured his eye, and was taken to the hospital for outside treatment. Under a pledge that he would not attempt to escape, tho. handcuffs were removed. After treatment, when the warders’ backs wore turned, Higgins bolted. A warder pursued him firing a revolver, but the man escaped.
