“S.O.S.” LAST NIGHT.

FROM BIG SAILING SHIP. THE “FRANCE” IN TROUBLE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 12. The following wireless massage has been received by the Secretary to the General Post and Telegraph Department-—“ 9.46 p.m.. S.O.S* from the ‘France,’ position, latitude 21.28; longitude 165.03. The “Canadian Transporter” is proceeding to help, and should arrive at noon on Thursday. Ships have the position. Another message (intercepted) reads: “Baling ship ‘France’ in position nord Boulari. ’ ’ This is followed by the words “Sur Reeif Contrariet:—Position latitude 21.2 S S. Longitude, 165.03 E.” The message adds that the Australian stations are dealing with the matter and the Canadian Transporter is 220 miles southwest of the France and is going to her assistance. The position given is westward of Cook Island.
