STATE MINE DISPUTE.
UNION TO MEET TO-DAY. There have been fresh developments in connection with the dispute at the Rewanui State Mine. The Secretary of the State Miners’ Union (Mr \V Anderson) yesterday received a telegram from the Minister of Mines asking if the miners were going back to work or if he would authorise the mine to be closed down. A special meeting of the Union has been called for 10 a.m. to-day to discuss the position. In view of the fact that events in connection with th* dispute are nearing a crisis, it is anticipated that the meeting will be largely attended. The management are evidently, not. disposed to be conciliatory, but it is to be hoped that the miners will be able to extend them an example iii that respect. (Our Own Correspondent.) RUNANGA, July 11. The trouble at Rewanui is still on, find we have been locked out since Monday week. At the last conference between the management and the Union, ns a. sporting offer the UnTon delegates offered to split the difference in regard to the walking time. We have been fighting over the fen minutes and the deputation agreed to forego five minutes, but the manager refused, and nothing has been done in the matter since. There is another aspect of the question that needs looking into, and that is the biassed account that is being sent to other places about, this trouble. There is only one side’s view of the case put before the public.
