CORNER IN CATTLE.

AN ATTEMPT THAT FAILED. SYDNEY, July 11. An attempt to corner the cattle market and force up the price of beef in connection with the sales at Flemington lias been frustrated. It has been the custom of tho Railway Department in consideration of yards’ capacity and tho auctioneers’ requirements, to allot 300 trucks for Ihe consignment of stock from country districts each sale day. It was discovered that one man had ordered 150 trucks for various northern stations for each day of the sales. The agents became suspicious and discovered that it was not intended to use tha trucks as the dealers for whom he ordered them were merely dummies. The agents thereupon approached the department and asked that an extra 100 trucks be sent out, in the meantime hurriedly advising their clients to send more rattle. This was done and as a result the supplies for the sales were normal.
