The appearance in court of Edward Bryce was the culmination of one of the greatest of detective stories, with the probable recovery before the week end of £30,000 worth of loot. Last October, seven masked men robbed a mail truck of £400,000. Detective Gordon McCarthy led the pursuit and ultimately found his quarry in a high social position. Bryce and his two partners Heines and Lambert, were captured leaning against their Rolls-Royce car. Bonds worth £20,000 wore found in Bryce’s trunk, in his magnificent apartment while £lOO,OOO was dug from a foot of a tree on Long Island as indicated by Brvee. He appeared in court lop-hatted, with cane on arm and wearing a monocle. His familiar alias amongst his millionaire friends is •'rhe Count.”
