The Opua was dispatched y i terday morning for Lyttelton with a cargo ot t imber. The Regulus, after discharging her general cargo, lorded coal and sailed yesterday for Nelson. The auxiliary schooner, Wanganui, which has occupied a berth at the wharf for some time, sailed yesterday for Sydney. The vessel was conveyed over the bar by the assistance of the tug Westland, there being a slight swell on at the time, although the day was perfect. The tug accompanied the sailer out to sea for some distance ami left her, the latter being visible on the horizon until dark last evening. The Titoki arrived late last evening from Wellington direct. On the discharge of her goner: 1 cargo the vessel will load coal at Westport for New Plymouth. The Waimea is expected to r|nive to-morrow from Lyttelton and West Coast ports with general cargo. One steamer remained at the wharf (last evening -the Waipori. This vessel is loading timber for Melbourne and is expected to be dispatched for that port to-day. The Orepuki is expected to arrive from Lyttelton on Wednesday. She will load timber and return. The Union Company’s Whangahape, which has been laid up at Lyttelton, has been recommissioned. After lying idle at Port Chalmers for about three years, the Union Steam Ship Company’s fine passenger steamer .Maunganui is about to be placed in commission again. This vessel will relieve the Marama on the Sydney-Wvl-llington-San Fr: ncisco mail service. It is understood a small steamer at Timaru—the s.s. Viking— is being purchased by a Urey mouth resident for the coastal service including the South Westland trade, the steamer will make periodical visits to the bays in the south. Mr T. IL Bowling, late chief officer of the Katoa, has joined the Maunganui as chief officer. Mr E. 11. Willson has been promoted to chief officer, and Mr W. Scantlebury second officer, of the Katoa. Mr R. ROUGH PASSAGE. FOR SAILING SHIP. (Received June 18 at 5.5 p.m ) SYDNEY, June 18. Tho sailing ship Laura encountered hardly one day's fair weather in her 16 days’ trip to Australia. She sailed from Awanni (New Zealand) on Mav 31, with a full cargo of pine, and ran into the Wiltshire gale. After a troublesome period, she encountered another gale off Lord Howe Island. Finally she met a hurricane off this coast at the end of her journev. The Laura will load a cargo of poles at Port Stephens for Bluff.
