Gas-testing demonstrations and examinations are held at the Gas-test-ing room. Greymoutii whenever require<l. Candidates for deputy-firm’s underviewer’s and mine manager's certificate can obtain good scientific and educational tuition in their studies by regular attendance at those classes, lhe encouragement and promotion of technical education and scienc-e is the school’s purpose and policy. Helping and aiding scientific education and training is over a laudable purpose and worthy of encouragement. The school ■was established in 1886 and has been worthily identified with the best interests and proper advancement of coal and gold mining throughout the West Coast. During its history it has been ably conducted and has a long list of past and present students wlio have attained success in the mining world. The director of the school would be pleased to receive any donations of mineral specimens, fossils, technical books, models, plans, etc, for the school museum and library at Reefton. For many years past the school has aided meteorological and geological work ably and well and its further success would be a credit and an advertisement to our town as also to the West Coast. Help on the West Coast is a good motto for us; we have a largo area of coal-bearing country, timber country, limestone resources, water available for power, some good agricultural land, a very largo area of auriferous country and we want it helped and advertised and we want its possibilities to become actualities in our day and in our own time.
