MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

(Before Mr W. Meldrum, S.M.). INEBRIATION One first offender, for drunkenness on Dunollie Railway platform on the King’s Birthday, was fined 5/-. Another first offender, for a similar offence in Boundary Street on tho same date, was fined 5/- and costs. A HOLSTEIN HEIFER. Margaret Black proceeded against Henry Gibbons for £lO the estimated value of a heifer, together with £5 damages. Mr W. J. Joyce appeared for plaintiff. Phiintifi, in her statement of claim said that she was tho owner of a heifer valued at £l2 which, up to about December 13th last was running on Blaketown beach. Shortly after this she missed the heifer, and advertised for it early in January. Subsequently Mr Coates, who had seen the advertisement, saw plaintiff as he had become suspicious with regard to a heifer lie had bought from Mr Gibbons. She went and saw the heifer, and identified it as the. one that had been tost. After this she sent Gibbons a registered letter asking him to refund the money paid by Mr Coates so that she could obtain possession, but tho animal had not been returned, so she had seen tho police who advised her it was a civil matter. The heifer was a Holstein. Defendant stated he had obtained tho heifer from the pound. Judgment was for plaintiff for the heifer in default of the delivery of which within a week, the payment of £lO with 10/- nominal damages. CIVIL CASES. ■ . Judgment went for plaintiff m the following civil actions:—Fogarty and Williams v. Thomas Lyons, £5/7/3; Dalgety and Co. Ltd., v. A. Douglas, £4/7/11; Skelton Frostick and Co. Ltd., v. J. Ralph, £7/6/9; M. McDonnell v. Catherine Dynan, £l9/14/2; James Kyle v. William Harris, £6/15/-; K. V. England and Son, Ltd., and John Walker and Son, Ltd., v. Herb E. Bright £6/12/-; B. Hannah and Co. Ltd., v. George Mallinson £7/2/-.
