INANGAHUA HOSPITAL BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting was lield at the Council Chambers. Present: Messrs Al. Fagan, W. Irving, 11. Betts, T. Watson. I>. McViear, J. O’liegam 1 rom \\. From Department of Health, Wellington, forwarding revised regulations re Hospital accounts, and stating that amount of Charitable aid given had to be separated from Hospital accounts. From North Canterbury Hospital pointing out that senile dementia was being treated in Hospitals, and asking "that the Board support a proposition that such eas-.'s be treated in a separate institution. Itesolvcd that no action be taken. From Miss Sullivan, Waiuta, asking that her salary be increased to £2 per week. From Matron Waiuta Hospital on same matter. Keceiwd and no action taken. From Department of Health re establishment of Consumptive Sanatorium in South Island, and stating that a conference of Boards will -tnk<? place at Tiiuaru on May 31st., and delegates be sent from each Board. No action taken. From Nelson Hospital Board re same, forwarding a resolution of protest ugainst the establishing of Sanatorium. From Department of .Health re charges to Defence Board out patients, stating that charges for advice ami attendance were excessive, and asking that the charges be reconsidered. The Secretary states out patients were charged 5s for each visit and 5s for Ifioz. bottles of medicine. Previous to 12 months ago the Department had not been charged. The patients also repor-ed once a fortnight instead of weekly. The Secretary was instructed to reply. From Department of Health, re subsidies on levies, etc., from local authorities, which must be paid at intervals uf no less than a quarter. From the Munioto‘-o Hospital Board, asking for scale of weekly charges. From the Department of Health Wellington. re the arrival of motor ambulances, which will be distributed to Boards on loan.—Received. I-’rum 'lie Depart ment of Health stating that the Minister of Health had approved uf Board’s 1923 estimates-— Bceeived. From the N.Z. Military l orces, agieeing to payment for soldier treated at Beef ton. I'rom Thus. Thorne. Secretary Waiuta Nurses’ Home, enclosing £.)O, two months’ contribution and £3 19s contributions, etc..- -Received. From J. Farr, Minister ot Health, stating he wutild arrive on May 30th and visit the Hospital next morning at JU. 2d r. O’Regan moved that a deputation wait upon the Minister, and the principal matter brought before him be the building uf a new Hospital, the deputation to consist cd’ Ihe ( hairman. Plessis Irving. MvVicar ami the mover. iSocmidud by Mr living. Mr Belts said he would oppose the motion on the ground that at the recent conference held iu Wellington the Minister uf Health was informed that the question of a new hospital would remain in abeyance until the district of Inangahtia was in a better ‘position. i he present was not an opportune time to press for a new hospital. Mr Watson said it would be useless to ask lor a new hospital at the present time. Mr MeVicar and the chairman endorsed Air Betts’s remarks. Mr o’Regan thought the district was entitled to a new hospital and they should press for it. Thev were spending a lot of money iir repairing the old building. I Mr O’Regan moved that the Chairman convene a public meeting at Cronadun with a view to the erection of a I new Hospital. The Chairman said jhe would refuse to attend. The motion was not seconded. The reports of the Medical Superintendent and Matron of AVaiuta Nurses’ Home were read and '>ceived. The Matron of Reef ton Hospi al asked direction re giving holidays to the staff, ami it was decided that Mrs Baillie be treated as one of the stall*. The Secretary referred to the Board’s financial position. He said it was possible they would not get any sum from tin* Council next month. Mr Jiving moved that the Board be empowered to borrow by way of overdraft from the Bank a sum not exceeding £250. Seconded by Mr O’Regan and carried. Mr McVicar wanted to know whether the Hospital stall* could not be reduced. The Chairman referred to the reports of April ami Muy. r l ho latter showed an additional live patients in the Hospital in the latter month. Resolved that th-e Board consider the 1 accounts owing by Hospital patients at next month’s meeting. Tenders for supplies were accepted ns follows: —Groceries, Harold Bros.; Wines and Spirits, Harold Bros.: Broad Harold Bros.; and V. Mori (month about); milk, 1\ Hampson; coal, R. Cook; firewood, F. Hampson; funerals, Healy and Condon. Accounts were passed for payment as follows: — •REEFTON.
