(Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Inangrthtta School Committees’ Association was held in the Council Chambers, Reefton, on Sat in day, May 27, the following memberbeing' present: Messrs Pascoe, Pnnk hurst, W. B. Auld, A. Cork, Jas. I’nt terson, I). Meliarry, C. R. Davies. .1 Knight. W. Saunders, C. I’. Mori (see ictary). The following school committees were represented: Kotokohu, Progress Junction, Waiuta, Cionadun. Black’s .Point, and Reefton. In iiic absence of Air T. If. Watson, Mr I’ankliurst (vice-president) was voted to the chair. Several members spoke upon tile very satisfactory state of the association and complimented the executive on its good work. It was proposed by F. Knight, and seconded by R, Davies that the report and bal-ance-sheet as re; d be approved. The election of officers resulted as follows: — President, \V. B. Auld (h’eeftou); \ ice-presidents, S. Pascoe (Rotokohu,, D. Pankhurst (Waiuta), I). Meharry ((Tonadun ). (’. P. Mori was elected secretary and treasurer. The president asked member to support the association so that it could be continued on the same good lines as during Hit' p: st year; thus securing for the committees in the outlying parts of the district a means of voicing their requirements. A letter from the Federated School (’ommittees ’ Association was then discussed when it was resolved that while, this association, has every sympathy with their great movement, it is not in a position nt present to send a deleg; te to the conference. The following remits were then unanimously carried to bring before the M inister of Education:-— .1. That inspectors’ reports on schools should be forwarded to committees and not treated as confidential to teachers only. Great stress was laid upon this matter, every delegate present voicing his opinion upon the subject. 2. That School Committees should have a voice in the selection of teachers by having three names forward'?*! to them for consideration and selection, when there an* several applicants for tin* same position. 3. Improvements in the sanitary arrangements of country schools. -1. That climatic conditions be considered in allocating capitation grants, I : nd that better provision be made for shelter sheds for country schools. 5. That some means to prevent the department changing school books be adopted, as the association readily understands that through this source of humbug, that many people who arc in favour of giving flit* children the best, with their united assistance find it very hard. Proposed by W. Saunders, seconded by .7; s. Patterson that Messrs Auld, Mori and Pankhurst, be a deputation to i place the association’s rmnits before the Minister. Carried. The president extended an invitation to the chairmen and secretaries of various school committees to be present at a dinner to betendered to the Minister at Dawson’s Hot id on Tuesday evening.
