RAILWAY REFORM.

NOT FORTHCOMING. AFASSEY DENIES THE NEED. CHRISTCHURCH, May 27. “What do you want with a new policy, when 'everything' is going so well?” Smilingly asked Mr Massey when an inquiry was made on the subject of the railways by a pressman to-day. He said he thought that later on, an officer or representative of the Railway Department would be appointed in each Island to keep moving all the time, and to let the Wellington office know of any grievances and their possible remedies. Such officers could get into direct touch with the people who used the railways. These appointments might be made ■when Mr MeVilly and his officers got back to Wellington.
