BOXING.
DEMPSEY AND CARPENTIER. LONDON, May 11. The ‘‘Observer” says: If the public is gulled into accepting the proposed Dempsey-C. rpentier match as genuine, in which Carpentier holds a chance of victory, they will get what they deserve, though the spectacle will probably be of longer duration than the Jersey City fight, seeing such strong friendship has sprung up between tin* two principals and their managers. It is tin' duty of newspapers and boxing critics to speak out honestly and streuously against the match, which is not a sporting match at all, but only an excuse for four men and many of their hangers-on to wheedle money from the public. MeCLEARY v. POOLEY. CHRISTCIIU RUH, May 15. Great interest is being taken in Hu* McCleary-Too ley tight. McCleary had a try-out a day or two ago, and is in tine form. His trainer expects him to show improved boxing power and stamina to that witnessed against Whitaker at Easter. ■ _ i
