JEWS SUFFERING GREATLY. AN APPEAL TO CO-RELIGIONISTS. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 14. The President of the Christchurch Jewish, congregation has received the following cablegram from London: — “There is a terrible crisis for the East European Jewry, and this will make a fresh appeal necessary by the united relief organisations of Great Britain. A. million of our co-i'cligiomsts are in the grip of starvation and pestilence. There are over 100,(100 homeless orphans. Dr Nansen, high Commissioner lor the League of Nations, telegraphs: — “The situation is desperate among the Jewish population. Immediate large foreign relief is necessary.” Help us 1o avert an appalling catastrophe. e hope for the immediate energetic cooperation of all Jews in the British | Empire (signed) the Chief Rabbi, • Lionel De Rolhschiid, Lord Swaythling. ■ Claude Montfiore, and Lord Rothschild. |
