FOOD PRICES.

WILL THEY FALL WITH WAGES. LABOUR WANTS TO KNOW. (Per Press WELLINGTON, May 13. The Labour Movement has now made iis protest against the Arbitration Court’s order lor reducing wages, and, il' an appeal against the decision is not grantee, Labour is looking- forward to retail prices being lowered to the extent of the wages decrease. There is a good deal of discussion going on in Trades Union circles on this aspect of the matted. While an acknowledgment is given to the fact that some manufacturing interests intend *o make reductions in their price lists, this is not considered to be sulfiei-enl. Mirat the Labour people arc looking forward to is a reduction in the prices of foodstuffs, and the suggestion is made that the Government should ask the Board of Trade to enquire whether the cost of food is being reduced in proportion to the drop in earnings ordered by the Arbitration Court. Il is possible that representations may be made to the Government to have au enquiry ordered.
