MR HOLLAND’S TOUR.
GREAT SUCCESS IN THE SOUTH. I | (Special to ‘ 1 Argus”). I DTNEDIN, V.-i.v 111. Everywhere in lhe south Mr IL E. Holland has had a tine reception —at Invercargill, Gore, Kaitangata, Dunedin (’il.v. At Smith Dunedin, Comrade Jours, of the local Labour Party, took the chair, and in Dunedin City Comrade C. M. Moss. In the most southerly places, the local Mayors presided, excepting in one instance, where sickness intervened, .‘.nil an apology for ab- i st*iici* was sent. Mr Holland spoke at Oamaru to a big gathering on the 11th, at Waimate on tin* 12th, and at Timaru to-day (the 13th). Speaking about 20 nights in succession is indeed a strenuous campaign for our Parliamentary leader. The policy and practice of the Tory Governments, who had consistentlv opposed every progressive meaSllr( > —e.g., old age, widows, and public servants’ pensions --was contrasted with Labour's strenuous fight in the past session to maintain a decent standard of living for the workers. At South | Dunedin the opportunist tactics of the official Opposition were revealed: proof 1 was given that the real Opposition—the Labour Party —consisting of eight men inside the House, faithfully represented the 125,(>00 voters outside the House, who, under proportional representation, would be entitled to a :>0 per cent, representation in the House. in the City of Duendin, the wasteful policy of the Massey Government in regard to coal ami other items, the camouflage to reduce wages, and the juggling with finance, were faithfully dealt with—all in the most temperate language, enlightened here and there with a touch of humour.
